Traditional reports are generally written towards the end of a year and usually represent value judgements made by the teacher at this time. Grades and marks are usually meaningless to parents, and some teachers' handwriting is illegible. It is essential that reports from different subjects have a common structure, but it is also desirable that reports explain attainment throughout the year and are machine printed since this ensures legibility. A solution is to produce a computer generated report from the assessment data which describes the levels attained, but which also allows a statement of free response by the teacher. The report should also allow test results and attendance data to be included. Each subject produces a report on a separate sheet so that the report can be compiled from the component subjects. A sheet for tutor and cross curriculum assessment is at the front and an explanation of the report and a reply sheet at the back.
